The United States is held together by a range of different laws and regulations.  The legal system does its best to maintain the integrity of the country, aiming to keep all of its citizens safe.  One aspect of that legal system empowers states and cities to levy laws on the local level.  Most of the laws are useful and do a good job in protecting the people’s rights and ensuring their safety.  A few laws, however, would leave most people wondering “Why?” or “What?”

20. In North Canton, it is against the law to roller skate without notifying the police.

19. In Lowell, it is unlawful to run a horse over five miles per hour.

18. It is illegal for more than five women to live in a house in the state of Ohio.

17. In Oxford, it is illegal to drive around the town square more than 100 times in a single session.

16. In Bay Village, it is illegal to walk a cow down Lake Road.

15. It is illegal to get a fish drunk.

14. In Akron, it is illegal to display colored chickens for sale.

13. Women are prohibited from wearing patent leather shoes in public.

12. In Ohio, if you ignore an orator on Decoration day to such an extent as to publicly play croquet or pitch horseshoes within one mile of the speaker’s stand, you can be fined $25.

11. In Fairview Park, it is against the law to honk your horn “excessively”.

10. Participating or conducting a duel is prohibited.

9. In McDonald, your duck may not be paraded down Ohio Avenue.

8. In Youngstown, riding on the roof of a taxi cab is not allowed.
