To many, Archbishop Hoban is a beacon of excellence, a place where students thrive academically and grow in a nurturing environment. But that excellence could not exist without a clean, safe, and well-maintained campus. Fortunately, The Castle is supported by a dedicated facilities department that works tirelessly to keep the school running smoothly.
Hoban’s custodial crew is composed of hardworking staff members led by Director of School Facilities Michael Considine, Class of 1977. Their responsibilities range from maintaining bathrooms and locker rooms to setting up for school events, all while ensuring the campus remains sanitary and functional. A strong and collaborative team with such a wide scope of duties is essential.
“They do a great job of working together,” said Spanish teacher Daniel Bee. “Let the record state that the faculty loves our facilities department and our custodians.”
One of those dedicated team members is Christina Ostroski, who has served Hoban for the past five years. She shared that one of her favorite parts of the job is interacting with students, but she also emphasized the importance of mutual respect.
“They should take pride in their school,” Ostroski said. “They are able to clean up after themselves and do their part to make our part even easier.”
Recently, three facilities team members, John, Class of 1967, Phil, Class of 1999, and Sarah White, were honored with the Brother James Spooner Holy Cross Heart and Mind Award. This award recognizes their humility, strong work ethic, and kindness. Their contributions ensure that Hoban remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
While the facilities department devotes time and energy to maintaining the school, simple gestures of appreciation, like cleaning up after yourself or offering a thank you, can go a long way.
Hoban’s custodians are essential to the school’s success, and their impact is often overlooked. The next time you walk the halls of The Castle, take a moment to recognize the people who keep them pristine.
