As the 2024 to 2025 school year draws to a close, students and staff at Archbishop Hoban High School are already buzzing with questions about next year. The biggest topic of discussion? The highly anticipated Academic Center.
Excitement around the new building has swept through the Hoban community. Ground was broken earlier this school year, and construction has been moving steadily forward. The addition marks a significant step toward a new chapter for the school. The Academic Center is expected to impact daily life in many ways, providing students with a space to study, eat, and socialize in a more efficient and comfortable environment.
This new space will be especially helpful for students who stay after school for sports or extracurricular activities, giving them a more practical and peaceful place to wait and work.Freshman Korben Hahn said, “I had a tough time finding a place to study for classes and even exams. I hope the new center can be a place where everyone is able to get their work done in a peaceful environment.”
The new building will exponentially increase space for studying, but will also improve the studying environment all around. Currently, study halls are held in distracting areas like the cafeteria or the gym, but now that study hall classes will likely be held in the academic building, students can focus more on school.
With all the attention being focused on the new building, the changes to the basement are overlooked. As the cafeteria and study halls are being moved to a new location the basement will fill other needs such as new classrooms and a new spot for the counselors. The increased workload of the basement along with the new building has pushed back the finish date, causing school to start later. Students can leave school happily knowing that they have almost three extra weeks of summer break.
Hoban should expect the Academic Center and newly renovated basement to be open and ready by the end of August or early September. However, the basement might take longer with the focus being on the new building.
As the school year comes to a close and the new building gets closer to completion the anticipation builds. Incoming and returning Knights will have access to a brand new part of the school building and the ability to further their development in education. Next year will definitely be a new look for The Castle!
