Everyone has their go-to mobile game that caters to their unique interests, when they reach for their phone. Two apps that have recently gained significant popularity are Hay Day and Block Blast. Hay Day offers a digital farming experience, whereas Block Blast provides an interactive puzzle-solving adventure. Although these two games are competing for the same spotlight, they vary in many aspects.
On one hand, Hay Day is a farming simulation where players grow crops, raise animals, and strive to build a thriving community. Unlike its competitors, Hay Day has a strong social component, where you are encouraged to create neighborhoods to collaborate with your friends so that you can all reach your farming goals.
Juniors Sutherland Moore and Dominic Fortunato put it, “it takes a whole neighborhood to win a derby,” emphasizing the cooperative nature of the game.
For many participants, Hay Day offers more than just entertainment. Senior gamer Daniel Bisesi notes, “Hay Day taught me how to make carrot cake, thread, and fish,” honing in on the game’s educational aspects.
Mr. Martin, a 84 level seasoned Hay Day Veteran, shared that due to his high level, progressing in the game has quickly become increasingly difficult, often requiring money to advance, which causes several drawbacks. Regardless of your status, Hay Day offers a social platform for players to interact and cultivate important life skills.
On the other hand, Block Blast is a puzzle-like game that allows players to engage in quick, mindless entertainment. This is true for junior Abigail Zackasee, as she states, “I love Block Blast. I think it’s a great game that I can just play without much thought.”
Like Zackasee, many cling to Block Blast for its simplicity and carefree play style. It does not require long-term planning or commitment—once you fill the board a new game replaces its spot like clockwork. Due to the rapid popularity of this game, she drew comparisons to past mobile gaming sensation, Angry Birds. She suggests that Block Blast has the potential to become a cultural gaming staple, much like this childhood relic of a game.
Block blast is a fun game many find “enriching for your mind,” as junior Leah Kubick explains, “it will always leave you satisfied after clearing a whole board.”
Ultimately, the choice between Hay Day and Block Blast depends on what kind of gaming experience you are looking for. Hay Day might be for you if you enjoy strategy, creativity, and teamwork. Block Blast may be the better fit if you prefer casual, fast-paced fun.
No matter your preference, one thing is clear: the mobile gaming world continues to grow and evolve, offering something for every player.
Game on, Knights!
