New to The Castle is Hoban’s Book Club, a welcoming space where students can share their love for literature and connect with fellow readers.
In the absence of a school library, the need for a vibrant hub for book lovers became evident. Answering this call, juniors Gemma Alexander, Katie Jeffries, and Claire “Arden” Powell, along with faculty advisors Jennifer Spiker, founded the Hoban Book Club. Their vision was to create a space where students could not only enjoy books but also socialize and exchange perspectives in a supportive community.
The club hosts regular book discussions, offering members the opportunity to explore a variety of genres and themes. These meetings encourage open-mindedness and keep the spirit of literature alive within the Hoban community.
An average meeting is a lively gathering where members share their thoughts on the selected book, engage in spirited debates about characters and themes, and even recommend future reads. Snacks and a laid-back atmosphere add to the charm, making each session a highlight for the club’s participants.
The Hoban Book Club kicked off the school year by diving into Kate Quinn’s The Briar Club, a hauntingly captivating novel that perfectly suited the spooky season. The eerie tale set a high standard for future selections, and the group plans to continue choosing books that align with the seasons.
Interested in joining? It’s simple! Students can sign up through Flex to become part of this vibrant literary community. Meetings are conveniently held during Enrichment B, ensuring accessibility for all.
Thanks to the Hoban Book Club, students now have a platform to explore diverse genres, engage in meaningful discussions, and build lasting friendships centered around the written word. Even without a traditional library, the joy of reading continues to thrive within The Castle.
So, Knights, keep calm and read on!
