Five Signs Spring is Not Coming to Ohio
-
You’re going to baseball games wearing your winter attire.
It’s suppose to be a warm sport that celebrates the world’s reawakening by hanging out with friends and family. Oftentimes accompanied by picnics and cookouts, the “national pastime” is a sign that the cold months are long behind us. However, here we are, in baseball season, shivering in the stands. Let’s hope we can still win with frozen Indians!
2. You’ve gotten so used to the cold it almost doesn’t bother you anyway.
While other states are experiencing the joy of the spring season, Ohio has turned us all into Elsa. Some people have given up on wearing their winter coats because it’s just been far too long. Others, however, put it on everyday mindlessly, knowing they will be greeted by a blast of frigid air the moment they step outside into mid-April Ohio. Even though we’ve all accepted polar bear temperatures as a way of life, some people still insist that spring is coming. However, as April wears on, perhaps it is time for them to “let it go!”

Easter was on April Fool’s Day this year.
Sure, this isn’t specific to Ohio, but isn’t it kind of ironic that the holiday that most represents spring and rebirth was on the notorious day of pranking? Given the amount of snowfall the following week, it seems like we may have gotten punked by God and nature.

Our trees and flowers cannot bloom.
The flowers are withering under the weight of the snow on their petals, and the trees that do decide it’s time to bloom change their mind when they feel the frigid air and the warning signs of more snow. Without any flowers or plants, it is questionable whether any attempts at gardening will succeed this season.

Warm days fade quickly into snow, again and again.
Yep. You know it’s true. Just when we believe that the worst of it is over, and we stick our faces out the window and bathe in spring sunlight, Ohio throws some more snow our way. This seems to be a vicious cycle that we seemingly cannot escape. Has our Ohio been sentenced to eternal winter?
