GLAX dedication sticks
April 18, 2023
The Hoban girls lacrosse have officially begun their 2023 season. While the team gears up to face its future competition, the road to success has not necessarily been easy. When the school year began and the search for a new head coach seemed to have no end in sight, the girls feared whether or not they would have a season at all.
However, with the leadership of now assistant coach Kristen Robinson, preseason open fields were made possible and kept the team practicing their stick skills and conditioning.
As the beginning of the season approached, hope was renewed when head coach Alexi Swisher decided to take a chance to lead the team to victory. Swisher has experience coaching GLAX, most notably at Ursuline and GlenOak. Coach Swish’s positive mentality and belief in the team has pushed the program to be the best it can be, and her journey as the Hoban girls lacrosse head coach is just getting started.
“All of us have been working really hard in the preseason and we are able to further develop our skills with the guidance of Coach Swish,” says junior Lane Shannon, a starting midfielder for the varsity team.
Senior varsity captains Molly Scanlon, Sophie Salamone, and Mara DeSantis have shown tremendous leadership as they help the underclassmen get better every day.
From hour-long bus rides to and from games and lifting and practices every week, there is no doubt that these girls have been pushing themselves to the limit. Thus, the work they have put in has been paying off tremendously. After huge varsity wins against Louisville (8-7) and Boardman (18-7), also including a JV shutout of 11-0 against Boardman, girls lacrosse has the potential for success in their 2023 season.
Although the Knights’ season has begun on the road, soon enough they will continue to dominate on home turf. Future home games include competition against Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Orange, and Gilmour Academy. Check out the girls lacrosse Instagram page for more information on future games @hoban_glax.
