As Hoban continues to grow with its new additions, so does the need for more funding and scholarships. While most may not see it, there are many dedicated individuals working hard every day to ensure the continued success of our school. Recently, two new members joined the Advancement office, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the team down in the basement.
Jeffrey Stez ‘70 is making his return to Hoban after teaching social studies for ten years and working in the Advancement office for 20. After his retirement in 2020, Hoban reached out and offered him the part-time position as Coordinator of Planned Giving.
“It is my job to educate Hoban Alumni, past parents, and friends about the importance of including Hoban in their wills or family trusts” Stez explains. “Many Hoban students are on scholarships created by families who have had great experiences at Hoban. By making a planned gift, that scholarship can last forever.”
In his time, his main goal is to increase the number of planned gifts, or posthumous donations, in addition to the money in the trust fund, which will help bring more students to the Castle. Along with Stez, Principal T.K. Griffith ‘89 adds a new title as he is now the Vice President of Mission and Constituent Relations.
Whether he is coaching our boy’s basketball team to victory, or bringing a smile to each student who interacts with him, Griffith wants to make a difference in the Hoban community.
“I love being an ambassador of Hoban and a part of the Hoban family.” he states. “As long as I am doing something positive, it doesn’t really matter what I am doing.”
Griffith is deeply committed to expanding Hoban’s opportunities for students, with a particular focus on securing more endowed scholarships. He believes that increasing these scholarships will not only provide financial support but also help to attract talented students who will contribute to the legacy of Hoban. For him, it is all about ensuring that a Hoban education remains accessible to as many students as possible.
“There is so much you can get better at. You never stop fighting and you never stop dreaming about what could be next for Hoban” Griffith illuminates. So stay dreaming Knights, because remember, it is not just four years, it is a lifetime.
