Brother Joseph LeBon was a beloved figure at Hoban, dedicating an impressive 57 years to the school and leaving an enduring impact on students, faculty, and the community. LeBon played a significant role in Hoban’s academic and extracurricular life. Fluent in multiple languages, he taught Latin and French, but his expertise extended far beyond linguistics. A computer enthusiast, he also taught computer programming, sharing his passion for technology with students. In addition, he taught math and religion and served as an advisor for the school yearbook. However, his greatest pride was The Visor, Hoban’s student newspaper. One of LeBon’s most notable contributions was renaming the paper from The Truth to The Visor. Under his leadership, The Visor became a platform for student voices and a cornerstone of Hoban’s culture. Former reporter and current Sacred Heart teacher Theresa Gorbach (Long) ’01, married to Matthew Gorbach ’02, recalled, “I still think of him when I write! Such great memories from The Visor. A Hoban legend for sure.” LeBon had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and heard. He was a constant source of encouragement and wisdom, always pushing students to reach their full potential. “Besides my mother and father, Brother Joe was the most influential educator in my 46 years on this planet,” said Nicholas McCoy ’97, another former Visor reporter. Despite his many roles at Hoban, LeBon still prioritized creating a fun atmosphere for his students. Known for his humor, he also had a surprising talent that amazed his classes. “His perfect circle was his claim to fame,” said former student Gina Dreibelbis ’87. While teaching geometry, LeBon would shock students by freehanding an impressively precise circle, keeping them engaged in the lesson. Principal T.K. Griffith also recalled LeBon’s remarkable ability to draw a perfect circle. Even after retiring from teaching, LeBon remained dedicated to Hoban, working in the communications department and eventually managing the school’s website. His commitment to education and Hoban’s Holy Cross core values never wavered. LeBon’s presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations of Hoban students. May God bless his everlasting life in the Kingdom of Heaven.
