Local Spotlight: The Three Best Coffee Shops Near Akron
It’s that time of year again. Teachers are piling on an insane amount of work, AP tests are just around the corner, finals are looming, grades are about to close for the year. Honestly, everything is quite stressful and quite exhausting. Trust me, I know. What, you may ask, can alleviate some of the stress, increase energy levels and boost moods all in one fell swoop? Coffee, of course! The answer is always coffee.
So, to help you out, here at The Visor we’ve compiled an in-depth list of the best local coffee shops to hit when you’re in desperate need of caffeine—which, at this point in the year, most likely applies to every person in the building.
Nervous Dog Coffee Bar, Stow
This place is special. Maybe it’s the memories I associate with it, maybe it’s the unique vibe, or maybe it’s just the superb coffee and tea. Whatever it is, this place is special. Located in Stow (don’t confuse this one with the two in Akron, this one is far better), Nervous Dog is the type of place you could spend hours in and never encounter a rude person, an obnoxious customer or a judgmental glare—features which only enhance the already awesome vibe and equally awesome coffee (I suggest ordering a caramel macchiato, they’re phenomenal).
Open Door Coffee Company
Found on Main Street in Hudson, Open Door never fails to impress. Filled with oddities like checkerboard table tops, obscure books and unique mugs, this small place is an absolute must if you’re in the mood for some fantastic coffee (their menu also features the best iced green tea I’ve ever had, ask for it with lemon). Again, always super kind people who are always the best conversation partners. As an added bonus, they only source fair trade coffee that is fresh roasted, which is always a plus!
Angel Falls Coffee Company
Obviously, when discussing the best coffee shops near Akron, Angel Falls undoubtedly makes the list—and rightfully so, honestly. The vibe, unique and awesomely quirky, makes every person feel accepted and welcomed, with most patrons always sporting a friendly smile. The coffee, however, is what stands out: Best. Iced. Coffee. Ever.
Now, drinking coffee from these places might not solve all your problems, but drinking coffee from these places while reading a good book just might. It’s worth a shot…of espresso!
