Meet the Three New Faces of Hoban

You’ve met the three little pigs, the three stooges, the three musketeers and the three Migos, but have you taken the time to meet the three new faces of Hoban High School? No? Well, you are about to! While Hoban’s teachers are undoubtedly some of the best in the land, there are many, equally amazing staff members working around the clock to ensure that Hoban thrives.

If you think you are busy, you should try being our new Director of Admissions.

Julie Stieber, who in August replaced long-time admissions head Katy Karg, works diligently with the Assistant Director of Admissions, Sara Stone, to promote Hoban to all prospective students. She meets incoming freshmen through the application process and welcomes them in the summer with a freshmen welcome picnic. But, that’s not where the warm welcome stops. When freshmen come to school on their very first day, her joyful, smiling face is the first one to greet them at the door as well.

.”

You would think after all of that work she could relax for at least a few days, right? In the famous words of Mr. Rossi, “Wrong!” By then, it is already time to start assisting the incoming eighth graders, who are considering Hoban as their future high school.

She plans open houses and placement testing, while striving to bring out the absolute best in Hoban, which, fortunately, is easy.

“I love working with students,” she said. “I’ve been working with students my whole career, and I have a special place in my heart for Hoban students because I think they’re amazing young people.”

Stieber has also experienced the Hoban family as a parent and has had two children graduate, Ted Stieber (15’) and Ellie Stieber (17’).

“As a parent, I fell absolutely in love with all of the concepts and all of the things it did for my children,” she said. “Now, I really feel like I’m sharing the message of what an amazing experience students and their families can have here.”

No wonder she does such an impeccable job taking care of the student body and their families!

In addition, Sara Stone, the new Assistant Director of Admissions, assists Stieber with their daily tasks. She helps shadows find the perfect host and leads the giant army of student ambassadors that work placement testing and open houses.

In addition, she runs the school’s marketing on social media and assists Stieber in the year-round process of gently guiding prospective students to choose Hoban.  A former associate in the Hoban Institutional Advancement office, Stone came back after a short stint with a non-profit organization in Canton.

“I wanted to work for a place where I knew I was really making a difference,”  Stone said. “I am honored to be a member of the Hoban family. I think it is one thing I will keep with me forever.”

Not to be lost in all these new additions, Hoban has also welcomed a new Director of Communications this year in the gifted and talented Laura Massie. Massie is the new face of Hoban’s media outlets. If anyone wishes to speak to President Sweda or Mike Del Medico, they’ve got to get through her first.

But she does not just represent Hoban over the phone. She invites the media to come see Hoban for themselves! She has already hosted one awesome media event. Last week, Ray Horner from the morning show on 1590 WAKR broadcasted from our very own Innovation Center. He spoke about recent Hoban events such as football playoffs and the STEAM initiatives and also interviewed several students, staff members, coaches and even family members.

When she’s not busy with the media, Massie manages and writes for the Hoban magazine, or purchases necessary materials such as business cards. Her contribution is invaluable though widely unrecognized.

“When I was called for an interview, I just fell in love with the school,” Massie said. “It just felt like it was meant to be. I felt like part of the family the first week I was here.”

Hoban is so excited to welcome these awesome new faces to our amazing community. These hard-working individuals work together with the rest of the staff to keep Hoban successful. The student body is grateful to them and looks forward to getting to know them better in the future.
