Top 10 Hottest Shows on Netflix Right Now
100 million people subscribe to the streaming service Netflix. With cable cutting dominating households across America. Netflix has evolved into the new norm, and here are the top shows according to self appointed Netflix aficionado, John Lauterjung.
#10 The Good Place:
At the end of every person’s life, they either get sent to The Good Place or The Bad Place. When Ellinor, played by Kristen Bell, gets sent to the good place on accident, her after life changes forever. As Ellinor’s paradise dream crumbles into a desperate attempt to keep everyone from knowing her secret, everything in her neighborhood gets flipped upside down. Follow her as she tries to submit her spot in the good place and prevent everyone from knowing her secret.
#9 Black Mirror:
If you are looking for a show with a dynamic storyline as well as a consistent cast, then Black Mirror is not for you. The Netflix Original show seems to take place sometime in the future with incredible technology that allows people to have phones in their heads and be able to show memories to other people. Black Mirror has zero recurring characters and nothing that makes you crave the idea of watching just one more episode. Yet, somehow, you will come to find that your night has been dismantled when you look at your phone, realize that it’s 3 a.m. and that one episode you planned on watching mutated into six. You may not be overwhelmed with passion for this show, but you won’t find any reason to despise it either.
#8 Stranger Things:
This phenomenon is responsible for the revival of Eggo Waffles and the term ‘Mouth Breather’. Somehow this group of 12 year olds has captured the hearts of viewers of all ages. The curious kids found themselves hunting down mythical creatures in Dungeons and Dragons one day, to hunting down terrifying monsters in real life the next. If you love mystery, crime and sci-fi, then this is the show for you.
#7 The Office (US):
Quite possibly the greatest remake of any British television show ever. In the past 10 years there may not be a more successful television series on air. The comedic geniuses who came up with characters such as Michael Scott and Mose the Beet Farmer deserve an award for the creation of such a humorous gold mine. As one of the most talked about shows of all time, The Office deserves to be towards the top of your list. Even though the first few seasons were supreme, every episode after a certain couple’s wedding is quite lackluster.
#6 Parks and Recreation:
Ever wonder what your local government office actually does? Me neither, but Parks and Recreation shows you what the inside of City Hall looks like on any given day… or not. This comedy ran for seven seasons and has become one of the most popular streams on Netflix to date. The show focuses on a Parks Department in a city called Pawnee, Indiana. The underachieving group would have no purpose if it weren’t for their far too passionate leader, Leslie Knope. The rest of the department consists of a goth intern, a right wing conservative, a short Indian, a dunce and a black lady who loves her Benz. This very quotable show is growing in popularity, breaking the Top 10 most watched show on Netflix in 2017. If you consider yourself a Netflix Vet and haven’t seen this show yet, then you have some work to do.
#5 New Girl:
It all started with a roommate ad on Craigslist. When Jess moves into an apartment with three guys, the possibilities are endless and absurdly funny. Jess, Winston, Schmidt and Nick are the perfect mix. Jess is the silly one, Winston is the dweeb, Nick is the slob and Schmidt is the preppy one. Somehow they make it work and create something wonderful. If you need to laugh, then you need New Girl.
#4 Master of None:
Dev Shaw is a commercial actor who had his big break on a Gogurt commercial… 4 years ago. Follow Dev as he lives his life trying to pick up chicks, find his big break and have fun with his friends. Dev, played by Aziz Ansari, and his parents, played by Aziz Ansari’s own parents, have a very interesting dynamic that is simply hilarious and genuine. The Netflix Original Series has only one flaw: it only has two seasons at this point. With more promising content prepared for the future, don’t fall behind on this show and watch it as soon as possible.
#3 Frasier:
Oh baby I hear the blues a callin’ tossed salad and scrambled eggs. The Seattle-based sitcom is about radio personality Frasier Crane and his life. From going to the opera with his brother Niles, or figuring out what to do with his elderly father, everyone can relate to some aspect of Frasier’s life. The show, a spin off of a character from the tavern-based sitcom Cheers, may outshine the original. Frasier is timeless and should be on everyone’s must watch list.
#2 Riverdale:
Ah Riverdale, a quaint town where nothing goes wrong, until one day a member of the town’s royal family vanishes. Jason Bloom is dead. Many lives intertwine and mesh to create one large gratifying chronicle. Imagine, a blending of Glee and Law and Order, Riverdale has all of the high school drama of Glee yet it drips with just as much if not more drama than Law and Order. This is one of the most promising addition to the Netflix arsenal of shows and is gaining quite a bit of attention. This show a diamond in the rough, don’t skip over it.
#1 White Collar:
Neal Caffrey is what every man aspires to be, smart, witty, charming and good looking. Neal is a con artist who got caught twice by the same man, Peter Burke. Burke bales Caffrey out so that they can work together in the white collar crimes division in the FBI. Each episode, Caffrey and Burke solve a new and interesting crime. Imagine if the show Boston Legal met Frasier, that’s White Collar and it is the greatest show you will ever watch.
