Top 8 Activities as Winter Turns To Spring in Ohio
We all know the time between winter and spring in Ohio is weird—too cold to partake in all the true good-weather-activities, but warm enough to make us restless for winter to end. As a personal rebellion, we find our own activities to make this strange time of year pass a little bit easier. Here is The Visor’s list of some of the most “exciting” ways to spend this time:
- Hike. As the weather gets warmer, our desire to go outside definitely grows. One way to enjoy the outdoors is to grab a friend, or two… or maybe none and hit the hiking trails. Given the circumstances, they can be a little muddy and treacherous, but that only adds to the true hiking experience.
- Drive with the windows down (and heat still on). Nothing screams spring like driving with the windows down. Nothing screams spring in Ohio like having to keep the heat on.
- Drink more iced coffee (not that you ever stopped). Warmer weather, colder coffee. I support iced coffee every day, all year, but spring is really a time to flourish in this aspect of your life. Keep drinking it, but remind yourself that it is your silent rebellion against the winter season.
- Make your summer playlist. Whether your style is groovy or edgy, rock or pop, trap or country we all have songs that remind us of summer. Now is the perfect time to get a head start on making your “summer 18” soundtrack. This will not only get you extremely excited for the coming season, but it will improve your mood in general. The music will undeniably conjure up memories of good times and leave you hoping for more.
- Summer candle scents. It is time for the cinnamon apple cider and Christmas cookie scented candles to go. Bring out the ocean waves and the occasional coconut scent. You know you’re ready.
- Organize/get rid of old stuff in your room. Although this activity may not sound as appealing as the others, it is one of the most necessary. It feels so rewarding to purge your life of unnecessary items. Consolidating to only the necessities (and a few things you don’t really need) is truly liberating. This activity makes you feel like you are really regaining control of your life after the chaos of almost a full school year. This could be especially helpful for seniors going to college in the fall!
- Start making purchases for your summer wardrobe. Or maybe just go to stores and look around. Everything is so expensive. Why do things cost money? Anyway, this is a good time to walk around stores and find your summery clothes (because, let’s be honest, you know you don’t want to be outside). Start building your wardrobe—or maybe just think about it.
- Reconnect with an old friend. When the weather is in this weird phase, we all start to get a little nostalgic. We’re ready for summer, knowing it’s so close, yet so far away. We miss the days when the weather was completely and utterly perfect (windows down, no heat). Thoughts of summer also remind us of who we spend it with. Use this time to grab coffee (or whatever you’re into) and catch up with an old friend, maybe even a relative. It is nice to think of summer, but it is even nicer to have loved ones back in your life.
