Bruno Mars released his brand new album, “The Romantic” on February 27. Mars is known for his ability to make hit after hit and this album is no exception.
This latest project features nine tracks and explores themes of devotion, conflict and last-ditch efforts to save a romance. This album can truly get someone in their feels and give listeners a mix of love and vibes. Musically, “The Romantic” blends salsa with elements of hip hop. The production includes live strings, horns and piano that create this salsa Spanish atmosphere. Compared to his past albums, this project feels more slow and mature.
The first track is Risk it All. This introduces the album’s theme of romance with the guitar and trombones in the background. It is a great intro to this lovely album, the lyrics and melody are very catchy, and makes the listener want to sing its heart out.
The second song in the album is Cha Cha Cha, another song with great upbeat drums and horns in the background. The main chorus is catchy with there being multiple Brunos singing at once which makes it harmonic.
The third song, which Mars released three months before his actual album as teaser, I Just Might, is another top listen. Mars’ old self truly comes out in this song with constant upbeat rhythms and catchy lyrics. This is definitely one of the best songs on this album and on his whole discography.
The fourth song, God Was Showing Off, is another melodic masterpiece. The instruments truly pop out in this song with loud horns and drums playing. The singing is still phenomenal with longer parts but still very upbeat, perfect for Karaoke.
The fifth song, Why You Wanna Fight, is a more slow vocal song, another type of song to sing your heart out too. This song has great emotion and shows the romantic tension in the lyrics.
The sixth song, On My Soul, is another upbeat type of song. The chorus is very catchy and this song will definitely reach the charts. The seventh song, Something Serious, feels different and is a funk song. Mars has lots of other Brunos singing with him in this song. The horns and drums give it a funky vibe and reminds me of his biggest hit, Uptown Funk.
His eighth song goes back to the emotional slow songs he loves to make. This song you sing with your guitar at a campfire; the chorus is catchy and has lots of emotion about reminiscing.
His final song, Dance With Me, leaves with a masterpiece. This perfectly ends the album with him singing a slow dance type of song hoping for his lover to dance with him one more time.
Overall, “The Romantic” is a strong release from Mars. While some songs stand out more than others, the album shows Mars is never done singing and creating hits. Fans of Mars will be very pleased with this album. I rate it a 10/10.
