A Hoban bowling tournament ended with a bang, literally, on Sat, Dec. 2. No really.

Members of the bowling team report that it was business as usual until a vehicle came smashing through the wall at Northwoods Lanes in Macedonia.

“The whole bowling alley shook and there was just this loud boom,” senior bowler Dominic Anderson said. “At first, I thought someone had just thrown a bowling ball, but then I looked and saw pieces of the wall falling and this big hole.”

According to eyewitnesses, an elderly woman was in her new truck when she mistook the accelerator for the break, propelling the vehicle through the wall when the parking barrier failed to stop her. Those who saw the woman claim she was uninjured, though noticeably shaken and very upset. No participants, spectators or coaches of the bowling competition were harmed.

“A lot of people laughing and the boys team from a different school started clapping and then everyone started clapping,” junior bowler Reba Fowler said. “I think there were other teams struggling and the reason they were clapping was because no one in the bowling alley was having as bad of a day as the lady was.”

Although the first responders originally told the athletes to keep bowling, the building was soon evacuated because of the insecurity of the damaged wall and the debris, which had spread across multiple lanes.

The tournament has been rescheduled for this weekend and the scores will be reset, which was good news for some Hoban bowlers and bad news for others.

“I was doing bad, but there were actually some girls who were doing very well,” Fowler remarked. “I feel bad for them.”

According to another bowler, this season has been riddled with disaster. In their first match, the power went out as they competed near the 10th frame.

“I think this season is cursed!” junior bowler Michael Bowling said. “I wonder how we’re going to top this one.”

The third match is set for Thursday afternoon at Legends Lanes in Cuyahoga Falls.
