Hoban is built off of traditions, one of the most notable being the Mushy Cookie. The soft centered cookie decorated with warm chocolate chips is a staple item for both Hoban’s faculty and students. The cookie has made it through years of lunch menu changes and even survived a whole new location swap. Due to the cookies’ popularity with the addition to the new student center, a designated mushy cookie and dessert line was added. This line makes it easy for students to purchase their favorite desert.
“Mushy cookies were what I looked forward to on my blue day D lunches; the wait for the last lunch was always worth it,” Senior Anna Wenzlik said. “I will forever miss those mushy cookie sundaes. They were amazing.”
The difficult part lies in deciding between a mushy cookie or a mushy cookie sundae. While both are delicious, they have differing prices and varying features. Compared to the lone mushy cookie, the sundae is $1.50 more and includes ice cream, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. This option takes a more fulfilling approach as it is about triple the size of the mushy cookie alone. The sundae itself is a more reliable choice as the production never changes. On the other hand, no two mushy cookies are the same, each cookie has its own shape, size, and mushy level. The choice solely depends on the person and what they are looking for.
Regardless it is clear that these desserts are not only yummy but they create a universal experience that everyone can bond over. Mushy cookies are served at almost every occasion such as 7th grade visitation, shadow days and mum day. These cookies are more than just butter and chocolate; they bring students together.
“I love mushy cookies they make every day a great day,” junior Nicole Krohn said.
