In my humble opinion, it is never too early to start thinking about Prom. Dresses can fly off the racks fast, so it is wiser to begin your search earlier rather than later. There is no need to go all-in with an October purchase, but having a vision in mind before hitting the stores is a strategic move.

When you start shopping, bring your friends and make it a group affair. Buying a Prom dress is anything but laid back and can be, surprisingly, emotional. Bring your friends along to give you opinions that will help you find the perfect fit! It can be a great way to spend time with them and get different perspectives on dresses, helping you narrow down your selection. 

Depending on your price range, you may have to travel a bit to find a dress, especially if you plan on buying a more expensive one. The Winner, Henri’s, and Gowntastic stand as beacons of glamor, though a road trip to Columbus may be in order. Henri’s and Gowntastic are nestled about two and ½ hours away, while The Winner sits just beyond Youngstown, approximately an hour’s drive.

For those leaning towards the budget-friendly end of the spectrum, do not worry! Windsor, Macy’s, and Dillard’s at Summit Mall offer a treasure trove of affordable options. No need to break the bank for that dazzling prom look.

As tempting as online shopping may be, I advise against it. Websites like Lucy in the Sky and Lulus can take too long to deliver your dress and often get the sizing wrong. I’ve found that buying online creates stress that shopping in person does not and makes for a more difficult process entirely. You never know what you might get online while shopping in person guarantees the dress you want.
